George D. Aiken Resource, Conservation & Development Area records, 1942-1997 bulk: 1962-1997.

This collection consists of the records of the George D. Aiken Resource Conservation & Development Area (Aiken RC&D), which document the activities of this organization from its beginnings in 1964 to 1997. General organizational records, including financial and annual reports, annual meeting records, and council meeting minutes and correspondence, provide in-depth documentation of the governance of the Aiken RC&D in the period from 1987 to 1991. Earlier activity of the Aiken RC&D is represented in both newspaper clippings from as early as 1962, and operations plans for East Central Vermont, 1965-1975. Newspaper clippings document both the organization and more general conservation and development news from 1962 to 1976. Newsletters and a small number of additional clippings dating from 1986 to 1990 are also included. The collection also includes several other reports and handbooks. Several specific projects of the Aiken RC&D are documented through these publications, including a Winhall Rural Fire Protection Plan in 1982, a White River Resource Conservation Plan in 1964, and a East Central Vermont Resource Project in 1970. Materials pertaining to a council member handbook and a base support handbook also include versions of the organization bylaws. Numerous photographs in the collection also document RC&D projects and activities from about 1976 to 1997. A slideshow script and slides for a presentation, "Creative Planning Techniques: Guiding Change in your Community," is included with these images. A small number of photographs featuring timber cutting in 1942 and excavation activities in 1956-1958 are also present.
